About the Hunt

Good Film Hunting, a site focusing on movies – the new, the old, and the forgotten. I’m hoping this becomes about discussion and discovery as much as heaping praise and flinging poop at the latest releases or in our Netflix queues. This blog is for movie lovers and adventurers, not movie snobs.

Movies bring their own prejudices and preferences. I may call your favourite movie crap. I may like the worst move you have ever seen. Disagree with me? I invite your comments. Convince me I’m wrong or, at least, to take another look.

Some of the best movies I’ve seen were recommended to me by other people.  So help me help you help me help you find that next good movie.

With this blog, I’ll be including:

Reviews – a look at movies that have been just released in the theatre and our thoughts on if they are worth your money, in the theatre or to rent.

1 star
 – not worth your time. This is one of those movies that you’ll flip on to by accident on your TV and watch because nothing else is on.  Not a good movie.
2 stars – it’s a renter. It won’t change your life but you won’t feel like you wasted your time either. It’s just not 8, 12, 15, 27 dollars worth at the theatre (geez, popcorn is expensive)
3 stars – good movie, take a friend. It’s worth seeing at home or in the theatre. Consider yourself…entertained.
4 stars – you’d recommend this if someone asked if there was anything good playing at the theatre. Not a “game changer” but a good way to spend your time.
5 stars – tell everyone you know. They can buy their own tickets though. That can get expensive.

Randomly Recommended – movies that have some ties to the reviewed flick, whether it’s the actors, the genre, the director or something else (random, get it?). These are movies that you may have forgotten about or didn’t know about, but we think they’re worth a look as a “good movie”.

Missed or Forgotten – a showcase of a particular actor who may not have done anything impressive or even decent in the last few years but they did have a time of greatness, and could again. This blog highlights their wins (and tries to ignore their losses).

Blog – a place for discussion and commentary around genres, what makes a good movie, or anything that’s worth a chat around the cinema.

What you won’t see are spoilers. It doesn’t interest me to ruin the movie experience for others. Sorry, spoiler trolls.
